Above the Tie Update - April 2019

Posted by Matt C on

Happy Spring!

Welcome to monthly update number 2.  Last month flew by.  We’ve been busy catching up on back orders & testing new product ideas and offerings.

The Classic Stainless

Above the Tie Razors in Matte Satin Polished

The Classics are back in a big way.  Not only can you get the original Brushed Matte Stainless versions at a lower price, I’ve added a couple premium finish options.  Now you can select the blade gap you need & a finish that matches your style.

Satin

You can now buy your Classic razor with the smooth Satin finish that’s only been available on the Windsor line.  Adding the Satin is $15 for a 3-piece razor or $5 per part.  These look great.

Polished

If Satin isn’t your thing, we are also offering the Classics in a mirror like Polished finish.  These are stunning.  Adding the Polish is $40 for a 3-piece razor or $13.33 per part.  The underside of the cap currently remains unpolished, but we’re working on a way to get in there and make it shine as well.

Classic Stainless Calypso

The Calypso handle paired with the Classic heads are not listed yet.  I’ll try to get these posted this week. They will only be available in Satin or Polished for now.  We’re working on adding the Brushed Matte Stainless Calypso soon.

Dates

Here are the current expected return dates for the remaining Classics on back order.

  • April 16th
    • M1 - Mild Sold Bar
    • M2 - Mild Open Comb (limited supply in stock)
    • H2 - Aggressive Open Comb

*These are the current estimates dates, and are subject to change.  We will work hard to meet these, but unforeseen circumstances do occur from time to time.

Aluminum

The aluminum razors are back, well, mostly.  The machining issue has been resolved and the caps are back in stock.  We did run out of the SE1s in that time, so those are in the pipeline to be machined.

Here are the current expected return dates for the Aluminum.

  • May 1st
    • SE1 - Single Edge Solid Bar

*These are the current estimates dates, and are subject to change.  We will work hard to meet these, but unforeseen circumstances do occur from time to time.

Windsor

The Windsor Copper handles are out of stock and we are working on improving the production of these.  The copper sealant has been problematic.  If we cannot get this resolved, this will become a limited run.  We're working on this now and hope to have a resolution in the coming weeks.

Gold Plating

Above the Tie Gold Plated Windsor Ink Well Razor Stand

We just finished plating 4 Windsor Razor Stands in 24K Gold.  One of which has already sold.  These are plated and ready to go, with no waiting.  Check out the Gold Plated Razors & Stands here.

Something New

I have been developing some new razor stands, brush handles, and shaving bowls out of new materials.  These will be available in the coming weeks.  You will be able to select your shape, color, & knot.  They will be available individually and as a complete set.

Please let me know what you think about these.

In the Pipeline

X1

The engineering team has started on the prototype.  This will take a month or two to iron out any issues.  Stay tuned for updates.

Travel Handle

I've requested mechanical drawings for the travel handle.  I am leaning toward a 2.5" version of the Kronos handle.  There is no denying the grip on that knurling.

It was brought to my attention that the Atlas handles travel just fine, and that time would be better spent on developing a premium travel case.

Some other projects have taken priority over this, but the wheels are turning.

Partnership(s)

We have been working with a couple companies to give classic shaving more attention, outside of the niche.  There are many benefits to our style of shaving and its time to get the word out.  More on this in the next 2-3 months.

Your input is important to us.  Please leave your comments and questions below to help us improve the monthly updates.

  • It would be nice to see some brass razor heads, especially in open comb, also some brass handles and in longer lengths( 100 mm.)
