Performance
The Windsor offers performance for all beard and skin types. Choose the M base plate for an ultra-comfortable, mild shave with no blade feel. Choose R for the standard Windsor shave - a perfect blend of closeness and comfort. Choose H for a highly efficient, blade-forward shave when you need maximum closeness.
Rasoio splendido !!! Le finiture sono perfette!!! La lucidatura a specchio è da paura !!! Sfiora la perfezione !!! La piastra che ho scelto è la R ..per me...perfetta !!! Grazie
I bought the Windsor SS with H plate a couple of months back and as a head and face shaver I immediately fell in love with it. So much so that for my 50th birthday my wife ordered me the R plate. I received it on my actual birthday and the shave was spectacular. I prefer the H plate but my skin also needs a break that the R plate provided. I got almost the same efficiency and no skin irritation whatsoever. I now have the dynamic duo! What Blackland has done with these razors is simply amazing. The price to quality ratio is simply unmatched. I’ve owned many fine artisan razors from Timeless to Wolfman and the ATT Windsor has become my favorite. It excels in all categories. If I never bought another razor I’d be just fine with the ATT Windsor. I can’t preach enough how great this razor actually is.
I have bought and sold A LOT (most well known vintage and current production) of razors the last 4 or 5 years, but this Windsor is the only one that has outperformed my Tatara Masume (Solid Bar and Open Comb) and Karve Overlander. I ordered another one to give my son. This is so well made and I love the classic looks. The classic stainless steel with the Atlas handle is the perfect weight for me. It just fits my hand so damn good.
I have sold off all my vintage razors and even put my Tatara up for sale. I will keep the Overlander in my dopp bag for traveling and the Windsor as my daily driver. The M plate was very good, but the R plate gave me the best shave I’ve had in years. Perfection.
Just got my ATT Windsor razor with H plate in the mail and immediately had to test it out. The razor is in the classic finish and is beautifully machined! The atlas handle ergos are excellent as well I shave face and head and this razor performed flawlessly. I had no stubble left on my head and my neck and jawline were BBS after a 3 pass shave. This is my first Blackland product of any type and I can see why their products receive all the love and support. This razor is a steal at $129 price tag. I hope to add the razor stand soon.
I'm using the Windsor R, it's more aggressive than I'm used to, but also more efficient. I'll continue mastering the technique and conditioning my skin to the new feeling, hoping for the best results.
I have always wanted ATT to go Titanium - finally under Shane they did and I couldn't be happier! A classy and smooth shave is guaranteed with the Windsor!
Overall, the Windsor is a nice razor, and it performs well; I've used it a few times now, and it is a good match to my mostly sensitive skin with the Regular plate installed. My gripe with this product is in the manufacturing and design. Prior to obtaining this, I have been using an ATT S2 slant razor in stainless steel I acquired several years ago, which has always been a very impressive razor to me, both in build quality and function. So, it was pretty disappointing to see the new stand is quite literally HALF the size of the old design, which makes for a dinky feeling and easy tipping over of the razor with only a slight bump. Additionally, my S2 had a really nice finished "cap" on the end of the razor, while the new Windsor simply has a bored out hole, making for an unfinished, and quite frankly, cheap look. Finally, the nice touch of engraving on the bottom of the old stand is foregone in the new stand--why?? To be clear, none of these gripes affect the functionality of the razor, or how long I think it will last me. However, suffice to say it was really disappointing to see ATT cut so many corners in a seeming effort to decrease manufacturing costs and/or increase profit margins in the design and aesthetic of the Windsor--it just could have been SO much better had they stuck with their own previous aesthetics, which really put them on the map in the first place.
Purchased the Regular plate and really enjoyed the performance of this razor. One of my favorite features is the Atlas handle. Purchase this razor with confidence because it is a high quality product.
I’m still trying to get a feel of the razor. I’ve had three razor burn shaves and four really good shaves. I didn’t enjoy my shaves with the Rex or feather blades but with the astra and 7 am, I had really good shaves. It’s taking me a bit to realize not to rush and to use a pre shave. The angle is definitely more important with this razor. When I’m not a dumbass, the razor gives an excellent shave.
I don't own razor with 0.58mm blade gap before and I did though it would not be as efficient as other razor with bigger blade gap, so at my last SOTW I use the blade the razor came with "Astra Superior Platinum"..Wow..it's efficient and smooth I got no nicks and burn at all..Wow..i love this razor.
I've come to expect excellence from Above The Tie after having purchased the S1 Slant open comb that I use in my D.E. razor shave rotation. The Windsor did not disappoint. Having mated the head with the 102mm Colossus handle that gave it extra weight, the razor needs almost no pressure whatsoever. Paired with a quality shave soap, it just glides across my skin mowing down the stubble. I was so impressed, I replaced one of my other D.E. razors in my razor shave rotation with the Windsor. It's a beautiful piece of craftsmanship.
This is my second and followup review of my Sept 16th review after a few more shaves using Astra blades.
I did follow Shane’s advice by not haphazardly switching components after a first shave good or bad until you have one blade nailed down. This is good wisdom and I have used my 2d shave using a previous shave with the Mild “M” plate. The 2d shave was used with the “R” base plate followed by the more aggressive “H”.
The first shave with the mild was after a 2 day growth and had no issues and with a nice close shave with no bumps, weeps or nicks!
The feel after another 3 day shave with the same Astra blade did feel more aggressive and also performed well ising the “R” plate. This Astra blade( 5 blades are supplied with the Windsor Bundle) also did well. I made my 3d shave using the same blade after another 3 day growth and you could feel the aggressiveness which to me presents no issues but some may feel this is too much aggressiveness. I managed to purchase a nice $12 leather zip case from Amazon and separate leather spare covers for the extra plates and every thing fit perfectly into this case including the large inkwell style Windsor base. Great razor and everything in its place.
I have many high end Stainless,Titanium and brass DE Razors in my collection. One of these razors is in a slant configuration double open-comb made by the original pre 2024 ATT. It is a 2015 Slant2. It is an aggressive razor and one of my many cherished slants.
This original ATT slant has their long Colossus handle which is solid and adds to its weight of 122.5 grams. It came with only one base plate and no stand.
When I sadly saw that ATT decided to quit making their razors in about 2023 I was saddened. Recently in 2024 however my old Razor maker of Blackland (I own many Blackland razors) decided to purchase the name and start making new razors in-stainless and titanium both favorite metals of mine I had to have one. One is actually 3 as there are three included base plates as well as an included ink well type stainless stand that holds the hollowed out Colossus 102mm handle for a weight of 109.8 grams ! This newer version is named “The Windsor” collection.
My original ATT had the same Colossus handle albeit solid not hollow for a 12 gram heavier razor weighing in at 122.5 grams. I like heavy razors and long handles because I let the weight of the razor do the shave and not my heavy-handed stroke. I paid $185 in 2015 for my ATT slant2 which then was an expensive razor with one base plate and no stand and no blades.
This Windsor at current $229 and with two extra plates and an added stand and blades separately would be over $300 which is not very affordable for many today.
All in all this is a great razor. Shane from Blackland advises in his pre-shipment instructions to insure that you install a new blade and tighten the handle down tightly and not over torque it and to use each plate with with the same brand blade several times and then try each of the other plates the same way and not be changing any components for an accurate feel of his razor. This is good advice. My only notice between my two ATT Colossus handles is that my original solid handle knurling is much deeper and grips better than this new handle, personal preference I’m sure. I highly recommend this razor for aesthetics and performance. The included Astra blades are one of my four favorite brands.
Awesome shave ! ! ! One week of growth & it took down with no problem what's so ever. I started with the H base plate for the first pass. Then I follow with the R & finally with the M base plate. It definitely pass the test. ABOVE THE TIE ... WELCOME BACK ! ! !
The Windsor has immediately entered my top 3 favorite razors. The Regular plate strikes the perfect balance between efficiency and smoothness for daily shaving. A wonderful discovery. Thank you, Above the Tie.
A wonderful razor. It is an excellent shaver, smooth and efficient. I also have the original stainless steel version, which I liked, but the new one is more effective, at least for me (although it must be said that I am comparing the old SSRH to the new H base plate). The new incarnation of the razor in titanium also offers a higher degree of manoeuvrability with respect to the heftier stainless steel variant; it is true, however, that some people might well prefer the latter to the former. The inkwell stand is perhaps the only part which I liked more in the original form, but overall I would say that the new version of the razor is an improvement of an already very good razor.
With the Blackbird Lite being my favorite razor, that changed shaving for me. Osprey as well, but I've only owned it a few months.
I was curious about the Above The Tie and their Windsor. It was priced reasonably and the Windsor Collection was on sale for a good deal.
With a dozen or so shaves using the M-mild plate, I can say I love this thing. It feels milder than the Blackbird Lite. Even doing a three pass face and head, using some pressure, I have a smooth clean shave with no discomfort. And I've been getting hours a day in the sun as well.
Looking forward to using the R-regular and H-high efficiency plates in the not too distant future. But right now the M-mild is working well for my routine!
This is nice quality American machining. It quite beautiful with the standard finish option.
This is my second razor from ATT. The fit and finish of the Windsor will be a perfect addition to my razor collection. I haven't had the opportunity to field test the razor as of yet, but I'm sure it will provide the ideal shave I've come to expect from ATT. Special thanks to Shane and his team for churning out such a quality razor. Thanks. DRL
Very satisfied with the purchase of the Windsor Razor with full set of plates, to experience the full spectrum of efficiency of the razor;the razor in its construction is flawless, and left a nice sensation when is held.
Definitely is an All in One razor.
A marvelous job in both presentation & craftsmanship. This is my first purchase of an ATT product and I must say, the product is simply superb in every facet with the shaving side of it being all out world class. I purchased the complete Windsor series in the Ti alloy and it is just fantastic. I've only used the H plate for 3 shaves as I've yet to try the other two lower or less aggressive plates and honestly, this plate is super smooth and effectively efficient without being to blade forward or direct. The feel is there but, it's controlled and not intimidating in the least. Just a very comfortable, smooth and yet nicely efficient performer. Wouldn't change a thing about the H plate and what it delivers. Blackland has done their homework and though I've never sampled a version previous to Blackland being involved, the influence on quality, craftsmanship & performance is definitely a forte of Blackland and the ATT brand is better for it. ATT has a phenomenal product and with the Blackland touch well, its a perfect combination in shave heaven. No regrets at all in grabbing this set. Kudos to both ATT & Blackland. This is a winner, period.
The Windsor in SS w/ a Regular head has been proving to be a wonderful addition to my shaving regimen. I can't praise it enough, and I am extremely happy at its ability to shave safely and effectively around the nose and across dimples. A very classic look, feel, and close shave. Thank you!!!!
